Before I Deconstruct (Latino in America DNA Project) is a feature documentary project exploring issues of race and identity in the community through the science of DNA testing and the lore of first- and second-generation migration stories. By using genetic analysis of prominent and ordinary Latino-Americans across the nation, the film will take an unlikely and innovative approach in exploring identity and grappling with deeper issues and nu- ances within the Latino community. Told from a personal point of view, director and producer Raquel Cepeda drives the project and participates in her own genetic adventure beginning in New York City via the Dominican Republic, Morocco, Guinea-Bissau, and Southern Spain.
