young girls aren't being initiated into the stages of womanhood the way they're supposed to by their mothers, sisters, grandmothers, aunts, etc. They're not reading books like "Women who Run w/ the Wolves" and don't have an intrinsic understanding of us being the caregivers of life, a title that is supposed to grant us immunity from any form of male violation. Abused women have dead spirits and for those queens gone astray and for posterity sake we protect and empower their existence so they can soar and continue to emit light. We have lost our path, our dignity and our battlefield tactics. We are disoriented because our mother's are disoriented, or they are indifferent, or they rather quote Jezebel being dragged away by dogs then Ntozake Shange. Children aren't skeptics, they believe what they're taught. These young students are symptomatic of our collective teachings and it's embarrassing.

I don't do domestic abuse because it would be a transgression against my foremothers but you don't have to be a die hard feminist to empathize with Rihanna's war scars. Men have been beating and instilling fear in each other throughout antiquity but leave us out of it or your children will die. Shout out to the 2 courageous girls in that class who possess wisdom and esteem beyond their years. You give me hope. I commend you and all the warrior queens that came before you.

This is a great piece. You don't really realize how much the youth is either affected or disaffected by things like this until you actually ask them. It's shame, but yeah, they develop these opinions at home and then see them on TV and they shrug it off. Thanks for writing this.

Cafe con Raquel! Hey Mamisonga! Love it here, been lost in djali rancher time for an hour already!

I agree we have got to triple time step it up with the younger women, NOW. I've been really disappointed in the overwhelming popular opinion still blaming the victim for the abuse perpetrated AGAINST HER, as though she somehow deserved or asked for it.

I'm having flashbacks of my days working on the Lower East Side (as OJ went golfing), advocating for NYC victims of domestic violence, trying to get the meager services and assistance offered to those trying to break the cycle and get away from their abuser. Often, the police and everyone else involved in "the system" had little to no sympathy for these people, who are often but not always females in heterosexual relationships, from the PJs to the the penthouses, of ALL ages, religions, races etc. THE AVERAGE VICTIM WILL ATTEMPT TO LEAVE 8X (EIGHT TIMES) BEFORE SUCCESS! I too wrote blog on subject, would really love your opinion! 'RELATIONSHIP VIOLENCE RARELY RELENTS IF RELEASED Reasons Rihanna Must Ri-think A Ri-union' http://myboxmychoice.blogspot.com/2009/03/relationship-violence-rarely-relents-if.html

I had a bunch of pages in the last millenium dedicated to ending violence against women.
Besitos y happy SPRING! *JULIE* BTS BYI TNR so fine in '09!
